The game was the first ever to be televised live from the Den, but goals from Butterworth and Bowen in the first 10 minutes saw the Canaries race into a 2-0 lead before Cascarino and Carter brought the Lions level before the break.

In the second half a string of fine saves from Bryan Gunn kept the Yellows in the game, before a late stunner from Robert Fleck secured maximum points for the visitors.
