Mardi Gras Indians are an iconic part of New Orleans culture today. But the tradition was born out of discrimination, with Black people excluded from mainstream white Mardi Gras celebrations. That’s why Gizmo, a Mardi Gras Indian, was driven by a passion to participate in a tradition rooted in rebellion.
