In the heart of the Cuban capital, a few blocks away from the Malecon, lies the working-class neighborhood of San Lazaro, where Gabriel lives.

Gabriel is a plumber, but with low wages and irregular work, he has to find his own ways to get by. This is what we call the "lucha" here, a daily struggle combining pride, resignation and tremendous vital energy.

Two or three times a week, sea conditions permitting, Gabriel goes fishing off the coast of Havana with Omar and Eduardo. With no boat and no fishing license, they use simple truck inner tubes covered with nylon mesh.
