Urotricha Farcta is a small Prostomatean ciliate, 20-30 micrometres long. Jug-shaped, with cilia in longitudinal rows, giving a striated appearance. Cytostome is apical, surrounded by cilia. Throat supported by nematodesmata. Aboral end unciliated, except for a single, long caudal cilium angled slightly to one side. Swims very quickly, with orbital, rotating movement, changing direction very suddenly by jerking sharply to the side. Macronucleus spherical, contractile vacuole in posterior of the cell, offset to one side. Eats small algae. Widespread, numerous in mud, standing water with decaying plants, and putrescent infusions.
