Storm Desmond batters the west of Ireland and reporter Teresa Mannion in Galway bringing a live update to RTÉ News.

An exceptionally high amount of rainfall means that many parts of Ireland have experienced one month’s supply of rain in 36 hours.

Large tracts of farmland are flooded, and communities have been cut off by flood waters. Until the storm recedes, the public are urged to heed the advice from the Gardaí,

Don’t make unnecessary journeys, don’t take risks on treacherous roads, and don’t swim in the sea.
