Hello Wild One!
In this weeks video I am preparing my Airstream Basecamp for it's first camping trip of 2024! It's always a bit nerve-wracking to check on my rig after it's been in storage all winter, because equipment can get damaged in the harsh environment here in the Rocky Mountains and repairs take time and money. One year my water pump failed and it took us 6 months to replace because there was a nationwide shortage, which meant we had to camp without a functioning sink, toilet or shower. It was a bummer, but we managed. And last year the latch to the bathroom fell apart, so we had to use duck tape to keep the door closed. When it comes to RV's, it's not a matter of IF something will go wrong, but WHEN. So I was very pleased to find no obvious issues so this year.

Our first adventure takes us to Northern Colorado where the land becomes more canyon-like. We followed the river to a little spot where we could enjoy some solitude. Weather in May is unpredictable in the Rockies. It can be warm and beautiful, or cold and even snowing, so it's always a gamble to plans trips in early spring, but I'm glad this year we were able to keep our reservations. The higher mountains are still burred in snow, so we will be staying in the foothills and lower mountains until July. The best camping trips happen later in the year, around late August to early September. Then, before you know it, the snow returns.

The Teton Moose painting is really coming along nicely! I was able to block out the big shapes and colors and I think it's turning out well. This stage of the process requires a lot of trust, because it can be hard to see past the "ugly phase" of a painting, but I have painted enough times to expect this and not get discouraged. I also got varnished another painting I completed back in the fall, which is inspired by the elk rut. It's an incredible thing to witness and hear, since the elk start bulging during this time of year.

Our next adventure takes us far South, near the border of New Mexico. I'm keeping the location a secret for now, so it will be a surprise! I'm very excited about this next trip, as well as, wrapping up the Teton moose painting.

Thank you for joining me and I hope to see you again soon! Until then, Stay wild!
