Kargil was once a flourishing town, and a transit point for people travelling on the traditional silk route and a major trade route from Central Asia and India. There are structures which are almost over 100 years old. Kargil is only a transit point for people travelling from Leh to Srinagar or vice versa. There are however so much more to Kargil than just being a transit point.
