The TailGator is great! I have multiple TailGator / StormCat generators and use them regularly. That being said, they are great for what they are - and that's a cheap generator with sometimes inconsistent quality.

Compare that with the Sportsman 1000 watt Inverter Generator. The Sportsman has many things going for it. Yes, it does cost more than the Harbor Freight TailGator, but the gains are well worth the price.

1- Extra wattage output. The Sportsman gives 100 more watts
2- It is VERY quiet. Like Honda EU1000i quiet
3- Very efficient 4-stroke engine - No mixing mess and hassle
4- No smoke and 2-stroke smell every time you use the generator
5- Inverter makes the generator safe for electronics
6- DC output for charging batteries
7- Overload protection that actually works and is consistent
8- Runs longer on less gasoline
9- Light weight. Less than 25lbs full of gasoline and oil
10- Sportsman provides lifetime support from techs that know the product and can provide detailed product information.

I'm a fan of the Sportsman, but I also really like the TailGator. They both have their place, and i'll have another video coming that covers cases where the TailGator may be a better choice. Overall, if the funds are available, and IMO, the Sportsman Inverter Generator is easily the better choice.
