"Still Wakes the Deep" is set on an oil rig in the 1970s and tells the story of an eerie incident. I show the story of the game in my video. Unfortunately, I'm not convinced by the story or the gameplay. First the positive: the graphics are very detailed and capture the atmosphere of an oil rig battered by Atlantic storms very well. However, I found the gameplay to be so monotonous and repetitive that the three to four hours of gameplay felt like six to seven hours: because no one else can do it, the protagonist has to run to switch X and sneak to valve Y while shouting the same curses over and over again (and so did I at the end). He also keeps having flashbacks to his previous life in which he neglected his family. Similar guilt-driven memories are familiar from games like Alan Wake and Dear Esther (same developers as Still Wakes the Deep). And after games like Outlast and Amnesia, the few horror moments are very shallow and predictable. In my opinion, too little is made of the interesting setting. And the tension doesn't come close to horror movie blueprints like "The Thing" or "Aliens". All in all, I would have liked much more variety, ingenuity and suspense.
