In the effort to improve building energy efficiency, cooling tower operation and control can be optimized using Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) to modulate the cooling tower fans. Not only that, the condenser water loop (temperature sensors, bypass valves, fill valves) can be controlled directly from the drives as well. Analog and digital inputs, outputs, safeties, PID loops and network communications are already available in today's VFDs.

The ABB ACH580 Intelligent Pump Control can also be used to allow the drives to manage a lead, lag and automatic rotation configuration. Integration with your building automation will be simplified as all tower operation can be controlled internally without the need for additional controllers.
