The Jonathan Larson Grant is an unconditional annual investment in individual talent. The grant is awarded to musical theatre composers, lyricists, and librettists, or writing teams, early in their career, to support artistic endeavors and safeguard long-term music writing careers.

Julian Hornik is a composer, lyricist, and librettist based in Brooklyn. Shows include “Assisted” with Adam Chanler-Berat (developed with The Civilians R&D Group and Rhinebeck Writers Retreat), “Three Days” with Mark Sonnenblick and Khiyon Hursey (Stanford, Vineyard Arts), “Deathbed Edition” (Ars Nova, Bedlam), “Tenn” (ASCAP Musical Theatre Workshop, Symphony Space), and “@QueerZ,” commissioned by the SF Gay Men’s Chorus. Film/TV credits include "Share" (A24, HBO Films) and animated musical series "Helluva Boss." Recipient of the 2017 Lucille & Jack Yellen Award and the 2018 Sammy Cahn Award from the ASCAP Foundation, as well as Yale’s Norman Holmes Pearson Prize; He is a 2023 Bryan Gallace Fellow at SPACE on Ryder Farm. He has performed his work at, amongst others, Joe’s Pub, The Kennedy Center, New York City Center, and Carnegie Hall. Alum of the Johnny Mercer Songwriters Project and Yale's Shen Curriculum for Musical Theater. Member of the Park Slope Food Coop.
