Join us on a relaxing adventure by canoe deep in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest of Ecuador. We'll encounter an amazing variety of wildlife and alien landscapes in this unique ecosystem, which can only be accessed by canoe when the forest floods.

In this no-commentary video accompanied by jungle sounds and ambient music, we share the highlights of our 5-day adventure deep in the Amazon Jungle of Ecuador. Cruise the canals and lagoons by canoe, hike through the jungle, spot a wide variety of beautiful birds, see cool mammals like the world's smallest monkeys and the endangered Pink River Dolphin, relax to the symphony of bird, mammal and insect calls, and check out the creepy critters crawling in every crevice (though we didn't get footage of the iPhone-sized cockroach that invaded our room).

The Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve is a must-visit destination well off the beaten path in South America. Cuyabeno is a magical place with immensely rich biodiversity. You will be blown away by the variety of flora and fauna. It truly is a once-in-a-lifetime, bucket list experience, It is totally worth the 12-hour bus ride from Quito!

For much of the year, severe rain causes the forest to flood, forming many lagoons and channels. The Water Guarango Tree that grows in the lagoon creates an especially magical environment. The only way to get around these protected wetlands is by canoe. In addition to multiple canoe rides looking for wildlife, a typical itinerary will include a trek through the jungle, a night walk, swimming with piranha in Laguna Grande, stunning sunsets and a visit with a local indigenous community.

Unlike the Galapagos Islands, where the animals willingly pose for you, the wildlife in Cuyabeno require you to be patient and quiet, but with a little luck and an experienced guide you will be greatly rewarded.

We'd also like to give a special thanks to our amazing guide Fabricio, as well as the friendly and attentive staff at the Cuyabeno Lodge. They made our stay a memorable one!

Cheers,

David & Kako
