On the eve of Christmas in 1869, a princess named Maud was born. She was the youngest daughter of the then Prince of Wales, Edward, later King Edward VII, and Princess Alexandra of Denmark. Maud was their fifth child and third daughter. Since the couple's youngest child had passed away, Maud became the family's de facto youngest child. She had a lively personality and was the most tomboyish of the three sisters. Edward VII indulged her and affectionately called her "Harry."
