The tool steel alloys for cutting gears with hobs is explained. https://bit.ly/3s26eWR

Their current level of performance is impressive and enables high speed hobbing of gears. For more in-depth information visit our Patron site https://bit.ly/3s26eWR

Tool steels are used in many other areas of machining, but for gears, their use is especially important as it is one of the most commonly used materials. Carbide is much harder, but brittle. The focus of the video is on the tool steels of the hobs, their names and properties.
We were not paid by anyone to make this video. The content is from independent research, and extensive experience in the field of metallurgy and gear manufacturing.

Thanks to all the Patrons for their support. Matt Connley thanks for being a Spiral Bevel Gear Supporter.

This history book from 1910 is one of those old clearly written books that should be read.

A great book for anyone doing manufacturing.

This book should be in every library where the design of subtractive manufacturing occurs.

Please SUBSCRIBE 🔔 We have developed useful content to help the machinist community with gears and mechanisms. With our free resources centered around skills/tools/knowledge, you are now enabled to make any high quality gear you would ever need. Gears are at the heart of all interesting mechanisms.

The history of gears is surprisingly interesting - the process of milling and hobbing gears plus the transmission of torque and movement all find a place here. We will open the "Secret Gear Case" to YT as well through this channel - a personal mission
