Here in Minnesota, we get plenty of hailstorms. Heavy hail or a long hailstorm can damage your roof and siding. If you‘ve had a hailstorm, it’s a good idea to contact your insurance company to see if your roof has been damaged. If it has, you can file a claim for a new roof. Insurance companies now keep track of where and when the hailstorms are, so they should be able to verify the storm in your neighborhood.

Damage to your siding or trim can be easy to see, since the hail will leave a mark or dent in the siding. But seeing the damage on your roof is not so easy for us amateurs. This is something a roofing contractor and/or an insurance company will need to evaluate. If hail has damaged your roof, your roof’s life span has been shortened.

You can typically make a claim for up to one year after the storm, so don’t sleep through this. If you see all your neighbors getting new roofs, there was probably a storm you didn’t notice. It is worth it to stay vigilante. Roofs have become very expensive to replace.

I’m not an insurance professional, so if you have questions or concerns you might want to call your own insurance agent to discuss.
