You may have noticed straight router bits with an extra cutter at the tip. What's the point? Literally. A standard straight router bit only has the two outside carbide cutters, which is fine if you're using the straight bit for trimming veneer or edging in a router table.

But if you're adding shelf pins to a bookcase, or need to make a hole, you'll want to plunge. With a standard straight bit, the hole won't go all the way through because the center doesn't get cut. This leaves an unsightly burn mark We made a video in the Infinity Tools shop to show you the benefit of having an extra plunge point on your straight router bits. Check it out here and tell us what you think.
