Argenis Mendez experienced another controversial draw on Saturday night, marking the second instance in less than two months. Judge Julie Lederman scored the Dominican veteran as the winner with a 97-93 score over Juan Heraldez in their 10-round match on the Deontay Wilder-Dominic Breazeale undercard at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. However, her decision was overturned by judges John Basile and Kevin Morgan, both of whom scored the junior welterweight bout even (95-95), resulting in a majority draw.

Heraldez, who is promoted by Floyd Mayweather’s company, entered the Showtime-televised fight with an undefeated record of 16-0, with 10 knockouts.

In his previous bout, Mendez (25-5-3, 12 KOs, 1 NC) fought to a 10-round split draw with Anthony Peterson on March 24 at MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland.

Judge John Gradkowski scored that fight in favor of Mendez (96-94), while Larry Hazzard Jr. scored it 96-94 for Peterson, and Paul Wallace scored it even (95-95).

During the 10th and final round, Mendez, aged 32 and from Yonkers, New York, appeared to be leading towards victory. He landed a significant right hand to the side of Heraldez’s head, followed by a left to Heraldez’s body and a straight right hand. Mendez continued to land blows throughout the match, including a left hook that knocked Heraldez off balance in the ninth round, and an overhand right in the eighth round.

Despite Heraldez's moments of success, including a strong showing in the fifth round and a wobbling punch in the eighth, Mendez displayed effective defensive maneuvers, making Heraldez miss with many of his punches, particularly in the third round. Mendez dominated the second round with well-timed hooks and straight right hands.
