Kotohira Shrine is a shrine located on Mount Zozu in Kotohira Town, Kagawa Prefecture.
The deities enshrined at the main shrine are Omononushi-no-Mikoto and Emperor Sutoku. Since ancient times, they have been worshipped as the deities of agriculture, production, medicine, and the protection of the sea. In the precincts, priests and shrine maidens who serve the deities hold various festivals and rituals throughout the year.
Famous items include the gold coins of the main shrine, the "yellow amulets of happiness," the "Otojin-sama" of the annual festival, the sliding screen paintings by Maruyama Okyo in the Shoin (Important Cultural Property), Kemari (Prefectural Intangible Folk Cultural Property), and the 785 stone steps from the temple town to the main shrine, the "Konpira Inu."
At the 1,368th step of the stone steps, in the mountains, is Ikutama Shrine (Okusha), which enshrines Ikutamahiko-no-Mikoto, the founder of Kotohira Honkyo.
I climbed the steps in heavy rain.
I would appreciate any comments on scenic spots.
