I wrote the top-ranked result on Google for "how to ask coding questions":
  / how-to-be-great-at-asking-questions

I made this video to accompany the article. As a programming teacher since 2014, I've answered thousands of questions, ranging from amazingly thoughtful to inexcusably terrible. I originally wrote the article out of frustration with the bad ones.

And yes, if you're wondering, most of them aren't great. In recent years, I've been able to preserve my sanity by adding an admissions process to Watch and Code's flagship program. This has nearly eliminated my exposure to the questions that inspired me to write the article.

This has been undoubtedly a good thing. It's a privilege to work exclusively with students that sincerely want to improve, and are willing to put their best into it.

It's also been gratifying to see so much interest in an article about how to ask better questions. While there are a lot of bad questions out there, the good ones do more than make up for it.
