Disclaimer: This is an educational demonstration! Amanita muscaria is toxic and can make you sick if you eat too much. This is not an endorsement to try this yourself, please be very careful with consuming wild mushrooms.
.
Amanita muscaria aka the Fly Agaric or Mario Mushroom is an iconic mushroom that grows worldwide (thanks to humans spreading them via the timber industry). They contain ibotenic acid, which can cause vomiting, diarrhea, drooling, paralysis, but is not an inherently deadly toxin (like the Amatoxins in a Death Cap). Ibotenic acid can be decarboxylated into Muscimol via heat, UV, and low pH (no need to drink reindeer pee), which is a LEGAL entheogen that acts as a dissociative sedative. Muscimol is a GABA agonist that induces feelings of sleepiness and delirium, consuming too much can put you into a coma, so be very wary of your consumption.
.
I ate roughly half a cap of A. muscaria fried in butter and felt mildy sleepy, a little woozy, and out of it. The mushroom itself was pretty tasty, I would try this again, just make sure you don’t need to go anywhere or do anything after eating it.
.
If you want to eat more Amanita muscaria without the entheogenic effect, you can boil 2x in water (changing water each time) to render them a good edible mushroom with great squid like texture.
