After working the speaking and entertainment industry for the last decade I have learnt a few things along the way, preparation at the venue being a big one.
A few preparation tasks that are often overlooked are:
Check the lighting - You don’t want to be suddenly blinded or stood in the dark.
Check the sound - How do you sound when you are mic’d up, are there any hotspots in the room where you get feedback?
Test the clicker - Make sure you know where to get the clicker and give it a test, so you know how hard to press, how to go back, if there is a lazer.
Put water on the stage - Dry mouth is common in those who are nervous.
Get familiar with the stage - Have a walk around the stage, notice any blind spots, decide how you will walk on and off.
