The Murabba Palace was established by order of the late King Abdulaziz Al Saud, the founder of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was built 2 km away from old Riyadh, in line with the city’s development and expansion at the time. The palace and its surroundings took the form of a mini city containing a few buildings. The king moved in with his family in 1939, making it their official home, the headquarters of management of state affairs, and a Diwan or a meeting center with the leaders of the world.

When you visit Al Murabba Palace, you will notice the unique design of the foyer at the center of the palace, surrounded by all the rooms. It was designed according to the prevalent traditional designs at the time, conveying unique architecture to its modern day visitors. The nature surrounding the palace has now left its mark on its components. The rooms are decorated with trunks of tamarisk all the way to the ceilings, and adorned with palm leaves and branches. The bases of the palace are made of stone, and the walls of mud bricks mixed with straw. The walls are adorned with inscriptions and motifs printed on plaster. Despite the simplicity of the architecture, the beauty of the palace is evident in the zigzagging pillars supporting the rooms and hallways of the palace.

The palace is built in the form of a square surrounded by walls, highlighting the nature of the local society that values the privacy of their homes. The palace has 32 rooms divided over 2 floors, receptions for the king’s guests, and administrative offices for the king's aides and guards.
Enjoy discovering the contents of the rooms on a historical tour inside the palace. You will see his belongings, clothes, and pictures of the king with his children and a number of world leaders.

You can enjoy a journey across the history of Riyadh when you visit the historical Al Murabba Palace. It is open for visitors from Saturdays to Thursdays from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm then from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. On Fridays, it is open during the evening period from 5:00 to 8 pm.
