The origin of ìyẹ̀rẹ̀ singing or orin Ifá (a special Yorùbá tonal poetry traced to Ifá) is Ọ̀rúnmílà. Ìyẹ̀rẹ̀ Ifá is an important aspect of Ifá divination. The voice of Ọ̀rúnmílà is Ìyẹ̀rẹ̀. Ìyẹ̀rẹ̀, a Yorùbá tonal poetry is contrast between "Sísun” (Ìyẹ̀rẹ̀ Singing) and "Pípè" (Ìyẹ̀rẹ̀ Chanting).

There are different kinds of poetry chants or songs in Yorùbáland but Ìyẹ̀rẹ̀ is a popular one among Ifá priests.
