The old west was rife with conflict and battle, legions of men waging war wherever the trouble brewed. These conflicts ranged from intertribal disagreements between rival bands of Native Americans, attempts at conquest by nations such as Spain or the United States, and entanglements bleeding from bad blood between Mexico, America, and Indigenous nations.

Regardless of the sides at war, or the reasons for their embattlement, men, and even a few women, have stood out from their battalions and cavalries and overall factions to become immortal figures of frontier history.

As an effort to shine a light on these legendary military figures of the wild west, we’re starting a series focusing on the folks whose bravery, intellect, and tactical mastery ensured their place in history books for all of eternity. First up is Y.B. Rowdy, one of the finest scouts to ever walk the old west.
