See a panorama of my winter and summer squash seedlings in the greenhouse. In this video from April 2024, I introduce the many varieties and species of squash I grow in my kitchen garden. All the squash shown belong to the genus Cucurbita in the plant family Cucurbitaceae. The ancestors of these squash were originally domesticated by Indigenous Americans in North American, Central America, and South America in prehistoric times. My collection includes C. pepo (Zucchini and pumpkins), C. maxima (American winter squash such as Candy Roaster), C. moschata (butternut squashes), and C. mixta aka C. argyrosperma (Cushaw squash). I look forward to showing you my squash harvest this autumn!
