Okishima is a castle town about 1.5 km off the shore of Lake Biwa that is associated with Nobunaga Oda and Hideyoshi Toyotomi. The inhabited island is located in Omihachiman City, Shiga Prefecture, and is home to approximately 230 people. It is the only inhabited island in a freshwater lake in Japan.
