Taking on 3 different roles in 5 years – that’s Parbati Kabi being #AllYouCanBe, a journey that’s taken her from Geologist to Enterprise Risk Manager. Here’s her story:

“I love rocks, but when I told my parents that I love rocks….😅! My father wanted me to study physics but I wanted to study geology as I thought it would help me see new places. I tried 11 times to do my Masters in geology but could not get admission. When I told my father that I wanted to try one last time, I asked him if he was disappointed in me, because I had not chosen physics. He said that he was actually happy that I had chosen to follow my dream rather than his.

Joining Hindalco has given me new experiences. When I was assigned to our Samri mine in Chhattisgarh, the manager called them up and said ‘We are sending 2 female geologists’. I told him there’s no such thing as female geologists. Male or female, we do the same work.

Hindalco is a world of opportunities. Whenever I have said that I would like to do a certain kind of work or role, I have been given full support and guidance, for which I am extremely grateful. In my 5 years here, I have done 3 different roles. The first 2 were related to my technical domain. Now I have been made Enterprise Risk Manager, which is a very new field for me. But I am an explorer at heart! So I told myself that I would learn it, and even I failed, at least I would have gained a new experience.

In my personal life, I love cycling, dancing, yoga, they give me happiness, and I do prioritise my happiness. I am happy to embrace my madness and I am unapologetic about it. That’s just me Parbati – the Explorer.
