The eighth-generation BMW G60 5 Series has finally landed in Australia, in a concise three-variant lineup that hedges its bets with both mild-hybrid petrol and BEV power.

Tom Baker checks out the i5 M60 xDrive, the tree-topping dual-motor electric flagship that lobs with a lofty $215,900 price tag, but backs it up with a whopping 442kW and 820Nm, sub-four-second performance and a huge list of luxury and technical features.

The 5 Series lineup is bolstered with the choice of the entry 520i mild-hybrid rear driver at $114,900 and the mid-range, rear-driven electric i5 eDrive40 that clocks in at $155,900.
