In my own life, I find myself learning and relearning the same lessons over and over. I try my hardest to live a slow life and a simple life; however, as much as I try, my own humanity gets in the way and I become my own biggest barrier. In this video, I want to share five of the common mistakes I have made on my quest to live a more simple, slow life.

1. Expecting Life To Slow Down On Its Own

Living a simple life is about slowing down and enjoying the moment. Oftentimes, I get caught in the trap of thinking that if I work hard and am productive that I will have more time to slow down and enjoy things; however, what actually happens is that I end up stressing myself out that I waste so much of my time. Life doesn't ever slow down because things are constantly changing and coming up. The only way to actually slow down is to make the time in your busy life to slow down. No matter how chaotic your life is, it is important to make the time to slow down and relax.

2. Rushing Through Very Important Things

I find that the most dreadful tasks in life are the most important ones because they set the foundation for your life; however, sometimes I can get so caught up in life that I rush through these things. When I rush through important tasks like cooking or cleaning, my life is more chaotic and out of order. You need to make time in life to properly complete important tasks in life because when you do it allows you to think more clearly. Living a slow, simple life is about seeing the importance of these activities and taking the time to do them.

3. Obsessing Over Things I Can’t Control

Most things in life we have no control over; however, we like to act as if we do have control over them. When we obsess over things we cannot control, it makes us more depressed and stressed out in life. The only thing we do have control over is ourselves and how we choose to respond to things in life. If we choose to respond in a positive way and not worry too much, it becomes easier to slow down and live a simple life as it takes away depression and worry.

4. Never Leaving My Own Head

You are your own worst enemy because your mind takes you to dark places. Oftentimes I make the mistake of overthinking into things and it takes me to dark places. I have learned that you cannot think your way out of a problem, but you have to take moments in life to get out of your mind whether that means meditation, physical activity, or physical work. These activities allow you to slow down as they take you out of your own head and give you a break from your thoughts.

5. Taking Myself Too Seriously

On my quest to live a more simple life, the biggest mistake was that I started taking myself to seriously. I started to get mad at myself for making human mistakes that I have no control over. I find it important to improve on yourself; however, it is also important to not be too hard on yourself because you are only human. Try to live a simple life, but also don't be too hard on yourself when you make mistakes.
