We enter the semi-arid zone of the Tehuacán Biosphere Reserve where the small community of San Juan Raya is located, and its dinosaur footprints, one of the most important paleontological treasures of Puebla.

It seems equally implausible that this semi-desert with xeric scrub vegetation in the past adjoined the sea. Here the hills hide a paleontological site called the San Juan Raya Formation. Hidden among its rocks is the history of the Cretaceous period, a period in which this piece of territory was on the coast of the Tethys Sea.
