Welcome to Day 3 of my NC500 adventure! The day started with breakfast and a surprise show of fighter jets flying through the valley—a cool start to an eventful day. We moved on, riding through some incredible scenery around the lakes, with a stop at a beautiful bridge where I captured some shots and spotted a few big stags.

The ride continued over a steep and winding mountain pass into Lochinver, where I discovered the 'world-famous' pies everyone raves about. The pies were indeed lovely, but the day took a turn when I noticed I might have blown a shock on my bike, likely from the intense inclines and declines of the mountain pass. With no mechanics nearby on Scotland's west coast, I was left worried, making calls but finding the nearest help only back in Inverness.

We pushed on cautiously, enjoying more amazing roads as we made our way down to Ullapool. I liked the town, but with my shock issue and the realisation that our Airbnb was 20 minutes out of town, my excitement dimmed. The Airbnb, a quirky little eco-cottage, didn’t help my mood. Solar panels that didn’t work and an eco outhouse added to my concerns about the bike and hunger.


Not included in the video:
I headed back to Ullapool alone for supplies and food, stopping at Tesco for essentials and cheap beer. I popped into a random pub but wasn’t impressed with the food, confirmed by warnings from two English guys I met—one of whom I’d already encountered at John o' Groats, the bridge, and the pie shop. He bought me an alcohol-free beer, and we had a good chat.

Returning to the cottage, I felt a bit better. Tomorrow is a rest day, and I’ll need it.
