The exact origin of Xing Yi Quan is uncertain, the first written records date back to the 18th century, however, the invention of Xing yi quan is credited to the renowned general Yue Fei of the Song Dynasty from 960 to 1279. According to the book Henan Orthodox Xing Yi Quan, written by Pei Xirong, the art was originally based on spear fighting techniques.
