The Royal Navy's fully loaded F-35B is tested on the deck of HMS Prince of Wales off the US East Coast. In naval aviation parlance, this is known as ‘beast mode’: each pylon is occupied by a gun, and the bomb bay inside vibrates. When fully loaded, the F-35B can produce 22,000 pounds of destructive and defensive force: air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles as well as conventional and laser-guided bombs. Lockheed Martin F-35 Joint Strike Fighters have made the first Shipborne Rolling Vertical Landings (SRVL) onto the Royal Navy’s Prince of Wales aircraft carrier.
