The Mapletøn Golf Club in Sioux Falls is making history by breaking ground on the newest private golf course in the city in over 60 years. The land was hiding in plain sight, and the discovery took some time and required a booming city that craves excellent golf and a native South Dakota son, Danny Amundson, following in his father's footsteps. This is not just any project; it is a "generational project" that will create new relationships and memories for the Sioux Links golf community.

The reason behind building a private course is simple: the city has tripled in population since the last private club opened 60 years ago. Now, Danny Amundson and his team are the next generation of golf ownership legacy, and he is determined to offer a top-notch golfing experience to the people of Sioux Falls.

The property has been long owned by Pat and Marcia Burke. The course design, created by Scott Hoffman, is a natural prairie course that looks and feels like it's been there forever. The bent-grass fairways will be wider than normal, and the strategy utilizes slopes and angles instead of bracketed bunkers at landing areas. The greens will have subtle movements with a lot of surrounding short grass, allowing for creative recoveries. The bunkers will have natural, fescue edges, giving the course a unique and natural feel.
