In this video I take a kayak trip to a small island just off the shore. Historically, Cole Island was strategically important to the Royal Navy as an ammunition depot. In 1859 the first two powder magazines were constructed, and five of the 16 original structures remain today. Cole Island was named by Lieutenant Commander Wood of the HMS Pandora after Commander Edmund Picoti Cole, master of the HMS Fisgard.
