Lecture 02: The Philos Project's 2024 Philos Leadership Retreat

The Philos Project hosted its 2024 Leadership Retreat in Washington, DC. Lectures and discussions focused on the Gaza War, ideologies influencing Western and Arab politics and culture, the history of Nazi antisemitism, and international law's grappling with genocide.

The Philos Leadership Institute equips Western Christians with education and experience to better engage with the Near East, promote pluralism in the region, and restore the West's Judeo-Christian values.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Dr. Hussein Aboubakr Mansour was born into an Arab Muslim family and is an Egyptian researcher of Jewish and Middle Eastern history and Hebrew literature. Due to government persecution related to his advocacy for tolerance and peace and countering antisemitism, Hussein left Egypt to
become a political refugee in the United States, where he is a researcher and military language instructor.

His critical intellect led him to find out more about Israel and Jews and to forge friendships with Israelis. Hussein received political asylum in the United States under President Barack Obama in 2012 and worked as an instructor for language and culture at the Defense Language Institute at Monterey, California.

He then went on to work as an educator and public speaker for ‪@standwithus‬, educating students about cultural and geopolitical issues in the Middle East and helping them counter antisemitism. Hussein wrote an autobiography, Minority of One: The Unchaining of the Arab Mind, and his articles have appeared in Commentary, Newsweek, the Jewish Journal, JNS.org, Times of Israel, and Mosaic.

He writes a Substack entitled, The Abrahamic Critique and Digest.
