SINCE OUR LOCAL PRESCHOOL AND DAY CARE CLASSES CAN'T VISIT THE FIRE STATION RIGHT NOW, WE'LL COME TO YOU! (Episode 2)
LESSON: Stop, Drop and Roll
“Stop, drop, and roll” is used when clothing catches fire. Teach children to stay away from fire and things that can burn them.
Children often get confused about when to stop, drop, and roll. Stress the importance of knowing when to do this behavior. Only do it when clothing catches fire. Children who do not have a good understanding of stop, drop, and roll will sometimes do this if they burn a finger or if the smoke alarm sounds. Using stop, drop, and roll under the wrong circumstances could be very dangerous.
Children should stay away from things that can catch clothing on fire, such as matches, lighters, fireplaces, heaters, grills, or gasoline. Clothes on fire can cause a bad burn and hurt very much.
ACTIVITY: Practice Stop-Drop-Roll
Stop! Do not run.
Drop to your knees and onto stomach.

-Straight as a pencil.
Cover face with hands.
Tuck in elbows.
Roll back and forth to smoosh out the fire. ("Smoosh" is a highly technical word!)
