The Baldwin Hills disaster was a catastrophic dam failure that occurred on December 14, 1963, in the Baldwin Hills neighbourhood of South Los Angeles.
The disaster was caught live on TV and would show the world the fascinating potential horror that can be inflicted on a community.
The dam project was headed by Ralph Proctor who had worked under the former Civil engineer Mulholland during the St Francis dam design and construction.
