Madeira is the cruise stop we are most looking forward to! So many friends have told us it is one of the prettiest places in the world, but since we're here on a cruise, we only have 9 hours to experience as much of it as possible! We woke up to stunning views of the city Funchal built into the mountains. Rode the cable car up to take in the views all around us. We came back down and joined a cruise excursion that started at Miradouro Pico Dos Barcelos where we encountered stunning 360 views of the island, and the church where Christiano Ronaldo was baptized!

This island produces around 23 thousand tons of bananas every year, and we see so many of them as we drive around the island!

We head to Camara De Lobos, one of Winston Churchill's favorite places, where we take in the views and boats in this beautiful fishing village, and try out first Poncha in the village where it was first created!

Next we visit Cabo Girao, one of the highest sea cliffs in the world - 589 meters high (1903 feet above sea level). Girao means turn around, which makes sense if you're scared of heights because this cliff is ridiculously high! It is STUNNING to take in the view of the ocean below through the clear glass floor!

We drive through volcanic vineyards on our way to Adega Da Quinta where we try some local food! Bolo de Cocao a delicious garlic bread made with sweet potatoes, creating the most perfect texture! Next, dessert, Bolo de Mel de Cana a molasses cake created by nuns in the 15th century using ingredients form India and Europe. We taste red and white madeira table wines.

We are so excited to find Brisa, a passion fruit soda invented in Madeira. It is so refreshing and delicious!

We love visiting local markets, so after the tour we head to Mercado Dos Lavradores, where we see so many incredible tropical fruits and vegetables we have never even heard of! This is a great place to souvenir shop for any food or drink related goodies!

We have our hopes set higher though, we want to try before we buy, so we head to Blady's for a wine tasting of real Madeira wine! We try the wine aged 10 years. Madeira wine is made with brandy and is deliciously sweet! We chose the "medium-dry" to take home to family!

As we board the boat, we realize this was our last time touching land for over a week! We say goodbye as the ships pulls away in a stunningly cinematic farewell. Thanks so much for joining us for this madventure on land! Join us next week for one at sea!
