40 years ago, a subculture landed in Frankfurt that overran Germany. US soldiers stationed here bring hip hop to Germany. This subculture is gratefully received in Frankfurt. The city is a melting pot of nations, banking and drug worlds collide, Hessian tradition meets urban lifestyle. Characterized by experiences of racism, poverty and crime, but also by the power of self-empowerment, artistic revolutionaries emerge from Frankfurt: Hip Hop is their mouthpiece. They include Moses Pelham, Sabrina Setlur, Azad, D-Flame, Haftbefehl, LIZ, Credibil, Celo & Abdi, Dú Maroc, Azzi Memo and many more.

In the early 1980s, hip hop from the Rhine-Main area conquered all of Germany. Because of the US soldiers stationed in the Rhine-Main area, among them the New York b-boy Rico Sparx, especially young men around Frankfurt come into contact with the scene. At first, however, the culture remains a pure underground movement: there is a club culture, the first record stores sell the music, jams are organized. Hip Hop is celebrated as a unity of four elements: DJing, B-boying, graffiti and rap. It is rapped in English. Hip Hop is multicultural, solidary and offers a home to all teenagers, whether rich or poor, black or white.
