Even if both countries have closely similar titles to their National Anthems, South Korea (ROK) derived their anthem from the old Korean Provisional Government anthem with the same lyrics which had the tune of Auld Lang Syne. On the other hand, North Korea (DPRK) composed an entirely new anthem while keeping the name "Aegukga/Aegukka". Both countries lay claim to the whole mainland. Several attempts had been made to reunify the entirety of Korea. Unfortunately, until today, both countries continue to have tensions.
