This display cemented the name "Firewater" in the lore of frontier saloons. Whether it was whiskey, beer, or a dubious concoction, drinks were typically served at room temperature, sometimes even warm, as ice-cold refreshment was a luxury yet to grace the frontier. It wasn't until the 1880s, with the advent of artificial refrigeration pioneered by Adolphus Busch and the national launch of Budweiser, that chilled drinks became accessible to the masses.
