Learn how to tighten loose dreads in this Howcast hair video about dreadlocks.

Okay, I'm going to demonstrate how to tighten loose dreads. With Kylea here, he has long dreads down the middle and he has shorter dreads on the side. So I'm recommending that he does the twist and pin method, because with his hair texture I think he'll get the best look out of that tightening method. There are a lot of ways to tighten dreads, but I think for this particular dread style he would need the twist and pin.

And that's simply taking a little product. You want to start at the root and I'm going to get a little bit of lock and twist gel, put it between my thumb and fingers, make sure it's nice and sticky, and then I first start at the base or the root base of the dread, the root at the head and go all the way down, just to kind of spread my product. And then I pinch it and then I start twisting, and I'm going to twist it all the way down, so that it's twisted from the root.

So you can see the full parting of the dread and once I get it down to the root, then I will twist and palm roll it at the same time. Now I'm palm rolling as I'm twisting down the shaft of the dread, because he has a lot of loose hairs around his lock. So to kind of incorporate all the loose hairs and to kind of keep the shape of the lock, I'm just going to twist and palm roll at the same time.
