Naturally, when comparing VPNs and their parent security companies, each is bound to have its own strengths and weaknesses. Both NordVPN and CyberGhost VPN have privacy-friendly jurisdictions: Panama for NordVPN and Romania for CyberGhost VPN. These countries are NOT part of the infamous 14-eyes alliance, a group of countries that share intelligence. PrivateVPN’s jurisdiction, on the other hand, is in Sweden, which IS part of the 14-eyes alliance.

Both NordVPN and CyberGhost VPN have undergone audits by independent third-party companies. While Private VPN has a no-logs policy, it hasn't gone through any independent audits. So you kinda have to take their word that your data will stay private.

Is CyberGhost VPN better than NordVPN? In the past, Cyberghost used to be a clear winner. It had more than 11,000 servers in 100 countries. But they have since hidden their server number while NordVPN recently introduced a ton of new server locations. That boosted their server pool to around 6,300, spread across 111 countries. PrivateVPN, on the other hand, has a much smaller server list, with only around 200 servers in 63 countries.

💣 Performance testing + streaming & torrenting

After running multiple tests, I can say that NordVPN takes the lead by quite a margin. Although, it's not that surprising since it implements a custom-built version of the current fastest WireGuard protocol. CyberGhost fell into second place, but what surprised me the most was that Private VPN was not that far behind, while it runs on an older type of protocol.

Comparing VPNs for streaming, NordVPN and CyberGhost take a clear lead here, unblocking a large selection of different platforms and libraries. Torrenting flips this around and Private VPN becomes the lead. Yeah, CyberGhost VPN and NordVPN have P2P-optimized servers and better speeds. But Private VPN takes the win for allowing both SOCKS5 Proxy and Port Forwarding features.
