I LOVE Sam Smith's vocal production, and we have SO much to unpack with UnHoly...

This song is taking off in a huge way, most strikingly (for me) is the intricate vocal arrangement, layering, and nuances that grab you from top to bottom. I'm always coming in with a pop music producer perspective, so this stuff is not only fun to unpack but helps me understand how to take it into future songs!

The biggest thing that strikes me is how much Sam Smith & Kim Petras vocal performances, tone, and energy contrast the color and shape of the massive choir behind them. Typically, pop vocal production like this is not so "dangerous" on the edge of what people expect, but they blend dark pop, cinematic elements, phrygian dominant harmony, and EDM bass seamlessly.

Lowkey i hope this is what we continue to see in pop vocal and production in general: a willingness to take risks, blend influences seemlessly, and do whatever will make the listener react.
