During Yom Kippur services at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Mich., Rabbi Josh Bennett reflected on the past year and posed the question: Where do we go from here? The events of October 7 and the challenges of the past year have highlighted the resilience of our people.

Rabbi Bennett shared stories of everyday Israelis who continue to work, live, and build despite the difficulties surrounding them. He emphasized that Temple Israel stands in solidarity with our friends in Israel, and that Israel’s resilience mirrors our collective strength, which begins within our families and our congregation. He also addressed the need to ‘stand up’ against hate—citing incidents such as hate flyers in our driveways and hate speech from a local Bloomfield Township trustee. Rabbi Bennett reminded us that even in the face of danger, Israel embodies beauty, holiness, and hope. #AmYisraelChai
