Welcome to the Mbudzi Interchange, one of Harare's most iconic landmarks and a testament to Zimbabwe's engineering prowess! Located at the intersection of Chitungwiza Road and Simon Mazorodze Road, this bustling interchange is a hub of activity, connecting key routes and facilitating the flow of traffic in and out of the city.

The road allows traffic from Harare South and users of Beitbridge road to connect to Mozambique through to the Mutare road and airport through Chitungwisa road, and Zambia and Northern Zimbabwe through High Glen road without going in through Harare City Center. This reduces congestion in the city center as traffic seeking to travel intercity of inter-regional can do it without passing the congested city center.

In this video, we take a closer look at the Mbudzi Interchange, exploring its history, design, and impact on the city. From its construction to its current status as a vital transportation artery, we delve into the fascinating story behind this modern marvel.

Listen to the exciting story on how the project is a brown field project that allows pedestrians and community members to walk through the intersection to the Mbudzi market, to school and work without hinderance.

The project is a private public partnership between Fossil Contracting and Teforma in conjunction with the Ministry Roads, Transport and Infrastructure of Zimbabwe. The intersection will be the biggest intersection in Southern Africa and will take up 48 0000 cubes of concrete.

The main trust of the project is constructing the bridge pillars and tables on site while the bridges are made off site at Fossil Contracting’s Mount Hampden plant.

Fossil Contracting is an ISO accredited contractor that constructs world class infrastructure. Over the years it has contracted over one thousand kilometers of roads and bridges in Zimbabwe, making it one of Zimbabwe’s leading contractors.

As partners they have Kaya cement and Trek for their fuel. The project was earmarked to be completed by end of winter 2024.

So join us as we explore the Mbudzi Interchange and discover the secrets behind its success! Whether you're a local or just visiting, this video is sure to give you a new appreciation for the engineering and infrastructure that keeps Harare moving.
