26 March, 2018: As part of the Apogee Instruments / Campbell Scientific lecture series for the Plants, Soils, and Climate Department at Utah State University, Dr Marc van Iersel discusses increasing effectiveness and decreasing costs when using supplemental lighting in greenhouses. Topics include photosynthetic efficiency, optimum daily light integrals, photoperiod lengths, and lighting types.
Marc van Iersel has had a distinguished career synthesizing knowledge from numerous disciplines. He did Postdoctoral research in the Crop Physiology Laboratory at USU from 1992 to 1994 prior to becoming a faculty member at the University of Georgia, where he is currently the Dooley Professor of Horticulture.

He has made innovative use of photosynthetic gas exchange techniques with both single leaves and whole-plant canopies. His recent work has focused on quantifying the value of far-red photons in photosynthesis.
