बाबू (देव आनंद) जो एक बदमाश है जो आत्मरक्षा में अपने सहयोगी बल्ली (जगदीश) की हत्या करके भाग रहा है। एक गांव में छिपे भगत (रशीद खान) नाम के एक व्यक्ति को पता चला कि बाबू अपने सहयोगी की हत्या करने के बाद पुलिस से भाग रहा है। बाबू को वह ब्लैकमेल करने लगता है। उसे शाहजी (मज़ीर हुसैन) का खोया हुआ बेटा बनने के लिए मजबूर किया गया था जो उस गाँव का एक अमीर आदमी है। जैसे-जैसे कहानी आगे बढ़ती है, बाबू एक दुविधा में है... उसे समझ नहीं आ रहा है कि क्या किया जाए, जब उसे पता चलता है कि उसे शाहजी की बेटी माया (सुचित्रा सेन) से प्यार हो रहा है और जो बाबू को अपने बचपन का साथी मानने लगी थी। भाई खो गया. आगे क्या होगा? प्रेम और त्याग की इस अनोखी कहानी को देखें, जिसे एकमात्र देव आनंद ने अभिनीत किया है।

Hiding in one village, a man name Bhagat (Rashid Khan) came to knew that Babu is running from police after committing a murder of his associate. Babu starts being blackmailed by him.
