A clash in Guilty Gear Strive is an uncommon event. Not rare enough that you barely see it, but you also maybe don't expect it in every single round. The clash in and of itself is mostly harmless, but the fact you can cancel out of the clash into something else can mean the difference between winning and losing depending on who did what.
